SAFE CHEWING GUIDELINES
Dog Chew Safety
Your dog's safety and wellbeing will always be our number one priority. That's why BetterBone was thoughtfully designed as a safer alternative to traditional chew toys and bones, giving dogs a satisfying chewing experience while helping reduce many of the common risks associated with conventional chews. To help ensure every chew session is as safe and enjoyable as possible, please follow the recommendations below.
THE SAFER WAY TO CHEW
Made for Peace of Mind
BetterBone is the chew your dog will reach for again and again, delivering the satisfying texture and durability they love. You'll love it too, knowing it's made with safer, healthier materials for everyday peace of mind.
BetterBone is non-toxic and generally safe if small flakes are accidentally swallowed, but it’s not meant to be eaten like a treat.
Choose the best bone for your dog’s size and chewing style to keep them safe and prevent accidental ingestion.
If your dog is wearing the bone down quickly or breaking off large pieces, go up a density. Replace when ends show moderate wear.
Keep an eye on your dog while they chew. When they're that cute, is it even possible not to watch them?
When to replace your BetterBone
BetterBone is meant to last, without lasting forever. It wears down gradually by gently flaking to prevent splintering to keep pups safe. Replace your dog's BetterBone when you notice any of these wear & tear indicators:
Check the dental ridges and nubs — if they're thoroughly worn down and the knuckle contours are no longer visible, it's time for a new bone.
Once it's small enough that your dog could swallow it whole, remove it immediately and replace. If you're concerned your dog may be chewing a bone that's too small, we recommend sizing up to keep them safe.
If pieces larger than a grain of rice or oatmeal flake are breaking off, remove the bone and move up to a harder density.
Once the three main ends of the wishbone are gone, the bone has served its purpose — toss it and grab a new one.
What if my dog swallows some?
BetterBone is designed to flake by design, protecting your dog's teeth from cracking. Tiny pieces — similar in size to oatmeal flakes or rice grains — should pass through your dog's digestive tract without issue.
If your dog is getting larger chunks off the bone, that's a sign to move up one density level. We offer free exchanges for any reason, including getting the wrong durability, so don't worry if you started with the wrong one. Simply reach out to our team, and we'll get your dog back to chewing in no time.
If you're ever concerned about ingestion, contact your veterinarian.
