BetterBone CERTIFIED PFAS-Free: Third-Party Lab Testing Confirms Safer, Non-Toxic Dog Chews

🧪 BetterBone: Independently Verified PFAS-Free for a Safer Tomorrow

At BetterBone, we’ve always been committed to crafting the safest, healthiest, and most sustainable chews for your dog—backed not just by words, but by science. That’s why we’re proud to announce that BetterBone has officially passed rigorous third-party laboratory testing by TÜV SÜD, one of the world’s most trusted independent testing organizations, verifying that our products are free from PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances).

🐾 What Are PFAS and Why Do They Matter?

PFAS are a group of over 10,000 synthetic chemicals commonly used for their resistance to heat, water, and oil. These “forever chemicals” don’t break down in the environment or human body, leading to long-term exposure and potential health risks.

PFAS are found in many consumer products—from cookware and clothing to packaging and yes, even pet products. However, exposure to PFAS has been linked to:

  • Hormonal disruption
  • Immune system suppression
  • Developmental issues in children
  • Increased risk of cancer

And while many regulations are now tightening around PFAS, there are still far too many products on the market with traceable levels of these toxic compounds—including pet toys and chews.

🔬 BetterBone's PFAS Testing: Certified Clean

To ensure we are setting a new industry standard, BetterBone voluntarily submitted our products for independent PFAS screening conducted by TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH in Germany—an accredited testing lab renowned for its strict compliance with global chemical safety standards.

✅ BetterBone Products Tested:

  • BetterBone Soft (beige)
  • BetterBone Hard (beige)

Both samples passed all tests and were certified to have no detectable levels of regulated PFAS compounds, with results measured below 0.01 mg/kg (10 ppb)—well under global safety thresholds.

🛡️ What Regulations Did We Pass?

BetterBone meets or exceeds PFAS regulations under European and U.S. law, including:

🇪🇺 European Union Regulations

  • Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 (POPs Regulation):
Limits PFOS and PFOA in substances, mixtures, and articles to ≤ 0.025 mg/kg and related compounds to ≤ 1 mg/kg.

  • REACH Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (Annex XVII):
Bans the use of specific long-chain perfluorocarboxylic acids (C9–C14 PFCAs), including PFNA, PFDA, PFUnA, and others, at levels over 25 ppb.

  • 2024 Amendment to REACH (VO(EU) 2024/2462):
Targets PFHxA and its related substances with strict limits, going into full effect in October 2026–2027.

🇺🇸 United States Guidelines

  • While U.S. PFAS regulations are evolving state-by-state, our compliance aligns with the EPA’s action plans and state bans (e.g., California’s SB 1044) restricting PFAS in consumer goods, particularly in products intended for children and animals.

  • We also meet proposed EPA drinking water and consumer product thresholds, which target levels of PFOA and PFOS below 4 parts per trillion (ppt)—demonstrating our commitment to proactive safety, not reactive compliance.

🐶 Why This Matters for Your Dog

Dogs are uniquely vulnerable to toxic chemical exposure. Their chewing habits and tendency to mouth toys and bones increase their risk of absorbing harmful substances—especially from products not vetted for chemical safety.

By choosing BetterBone, you’re ensuring your dog’s exposure to PFAS and other harmful chemicals is effectively negligible.

🌱 BetterBone: Safety, Sustainability, and Science

Our PFAS-free results are not just a milestone—they’re a mission statement. BetterBone is built on European innovation, sustainable practices, and unwavering transparency. From our natural material composition to our zero-waste manufacturing processes, every bone we create reflects our commitment to your pet’s well-being and the health of our planet.

💬 Trust What’s In Their Mouth
